MONITORING LAND HEALTH IN AGRICULTURE LANDSCAPES OF MALAWI: APPLICABILITY OF NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS (NbS) STANDARDS AND LAND HEALTH INDICATORS IN MALAWI

Client: International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)

March 2024 - June 2024

Project Overview

This project assessed how Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and land-health indicators can be applied to strengthen sustainable agriculture in Malawi. It combined policy review, farmer surveys, soil analysis, and field testing across multiple agro-ecological zones to evaluate current practices, land health status, and NbS adoption. The study validated IUCN NbS standards in real farming landscapes, identified key monitoring indicators, and developed practical recommendations and tools to support policymakers and practitioners in mainstreaming land health, climate resilience, and sustainable agricultural transformation in Malawi.
